TL;DR – AI content for roofers is the easiest content batch job in the trades. Fly the drone once, pull three stills, upload the clip and stills to Claude with one saved prompt, and get five platform-specific posts back in about 20 minutes. Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Google Business Profile all get their own version. No editing app required. This is the exact workflow Bryce runs at SwagerBuilds every week.
AI content for roofers is the fastest way we know to keep the socials moving without adding a “social media person” to payroll. Fly one drone video, pull three stills, feed it to Claude, let the AI write five platform-specific versions.
One clip a week x 52 x 5 posts = 260 pieces of social a year off maybe 15 hours total. That is what the biggest roofing brands spend in a single week.
Why Rexburg is a good market for this play
Rexburg and Madison County are unusual. BYU-Idaho pushes the population to about 40,000 during school. Student rentals and new subdivisions off Main and University mean spring hail and wind produce insurance calls. Roofers here compete on speed, but they also compete on trust because half the homeowners are first-time buyers or property managers running remote from Boise or out of state.
Social content is how you build that trust before the storm. A remote property manager will not answer a cold call. She will scroll her feed, see your drone footage, and remember your name when her Rexburg rental leaks.
The workflow, step by step
Every part of this can be done from a truck on lunch. No laptop required.
- Fly the drone before the tear-off or during install. Two minutes of footage is plenty.
- Pull three stills from the video: one wide, one close, one action shot with a crew member visible.
- Open Claude on your phone or laptop. Paste the saved prompt below.
- Upload the video (or a 30-second export) and the three stills.
- Add three lines of context: address zone, roof type, homeowner or GC context.
- Claude returns five posts. Read, tweak, schedule via Metricool.
Bryce runs this every Friday at SwagerBuilds in Rigby. Drone-in-the-air to five-posts-in-Metricool: under 25 minutes.
The exact prompt
Save this. Bryce calls it “ROOF-BATCH.”
You are helping a roofing contractor turn one drone video and three stills into five platform-specific social posts. I will give you the video, the stills, and short job context. Return the following:
1. INSTAGRAM caption (150 words max, first line is a hook, uses 5 to 8 hashtags at the end, no jargon, includes a CTA to DM for a free roof check)
2. TIKTOK caption (90 characters max hook line + 3 hashtags, made to run over the drone footage as a voiceover script - write both the hook and the 20-second voiceover)
3. LINKEDIN post (200 words max, first-person from the contractor's POV, one takeaway that would matter to a property manager or GC, no hashtags at the top, 3 hashtags at the bottom)
4. FACEBOOK post (120 words max, plain English, ends with a question to drive comments)
5. GOOGLE BUSINESS PROFILE post (100 words max, includes city name, roof type, and one specific detail from the job - this one is for local SEO, so be specific)
Rules:
- Use plain English. No "elevate," no "transform," no emojis unless I ask.
- Do not invent details not visible in the video or stills or given in my context.
- If I did not tell you the customer name, do not use one.
- End each post with a soft CTA, not a hard sell.
- Idaho voice - direct, unfancy, no marketing-speak.
The rule set matters more than the post structure. Without those five bullets Claude drifts into marketing-agency voice inside three sentences.
What the drone footage should show
Not every clip produces good social. The AI can only write what it can see. Aim for these five shots:
- Wide establishing shot. Roof in context, driveway, neighbor’s house.
- Close-up of the ridge, valley, or damaged area. Detail.
- Crew action shot. Person on the roof, hands on shingles.
- Before/after if you can. Same angle before tear-off and after install.
- One truck or sign shot. Your brand on the truck door.
Five shots gives the AI enough material for five distinct posts. If you only shot 90 seconds of one angle, expect similar posts and adjust.
Sample output from one Rexburg tear-off
Job context Bryce would give: “1970s ranch off 7th South in Rexburg, 30-square 3-tab tear-off, going back with GAF Timberline HDZ in Charcoal, 2-day install, homeowner mentioned two prior leaks over the garage.”
Instagram caption (what Claude returns):
That is what a 50-year-old 3-tab looks like from 100 feet up. This Rexburg homeowner had been chasing two leaks over the garage for years. Turned out the field was toast under the surface. New GAF Timberline HDZ in Charcoal goes on tomorrow. 30 squares, 2 days, one fewer thing to worry about. DM us for a free roof check. #RexburgRoofing #IdahoRoofers #MadisonCountyID #GAFRoofing #TearOff #RoofReplacement
TikTok voiceover script:
Hook: “This roof was leaking in two spots. Here is why.” Voiceover: “1970s Rexburg ranch. 3-tab shingle, 50 years old. Field was cooked. Homeowner thought it was flashing. Real answer: full replacement. GAF Timberline HDZ. 30 squares, 2 days.” #RexburgRoofing #RoofTikTok #IdahoRoofing
LinkedIn post:
When a roof leaks in the same two spots year after year, the field is usually gone even if the shingles look “okay” from the ground. This Rexburg rancher off 7th South is a case in point. Two prior repairs, same failure pattern. We flew it, showed the owner from 100 feet, and moved to a full tear-off. 30 squares of GAF Timberline HDZ. 2 days. If you manage rentals in Madison or Bonneville County, an aerial roof check is the cheapest 15 minutes on your calendar. #PropertyManagement #EasternIdaho #Roofing
Facebook post:
Two prior repairs, same two leaks. This Rexburg homeowner spent years chasing a problem no bucket of sealant was going to fix. The 3-tab field was 50 years old. Full replacement going on tomorrow, GAF Timberline HDZ. Anyone else out there patching the same spot twice?
Google Business Profile post:
Full tear-off underway in Rexburg this week. 1970s ranch, 30 squares of GAF Timberline HDZ replacing 50-year-old 3-tab. Leaks traced to field failure, not flashing. 2-day install. Serving Madison County. Free roof check available.
Five posts, one video, one prompt. About 3 minutes in Claude, 15 minutes total to review and schedule.
Rights, disclosure, what NOT to do
Your video, no stock issues. You shot it, you own it. Music rights are fine if you use the platform’s native library or royalty-free tracks. Get permission before posting close-ups of homeowners on camera. Aerial roof shots are fine.
Do not invent details. If the AI writes “the homeowner told us…” and no homeowner said anything, cut it.
Do not lie about warranty terms. Claude will happily write “lifetime warranty” if you do not correct it. Fix in review, every time.
Disclosure: Bryce runs this weekly at SwagerBuilds. Your mileage varies with your footage.
Why not just hire a social media person?
A social media person runs $18 to $30 an hour, and they still cannot fly a roof or write a caption that sounds like a roofer wrote it.
An AI-batching workflow keeps your voice on the posts because the source material is your video, your context, your review. The AI is a typist, not a strategist. Roofers we know who tried the “hire someone” route ended up rewriting every caption anyway because the outsourced content sounded like a college kid who has never nailed a shingle.
That said, if the workflow is not something you will actually do, hire someone. Bad AI content is worse than none.
The compounding math
1 video x 52 weeks x 5 posts = 260 pieces of social a year.
Time: 25 minutes per week x 52 = 21.7 hours per year. Cost: about $240 a year for Claude Pro plus your drone.
Compared to $2,000 to $4,000 a month for a “roofer social media package,” that is 90%+ savings for output that sounds like you. See pricing or full services to set the site, SEO, and this workflow up together.
FAQ
Which drone should I buy for this? Any consumer drone with 4K video works. Bryce uses a DJI Mini 3 Pro. Under a thousand dollars, fits in a truck door pocket. Register with FAA if you fly commercially.
Do I need Claude Pro or does the free tier work? Free tier works for text-only prompts. If you want to upload video, use Pro ($20/mo). We have not seen a roofer regret the $20.
Can I schedule the five posts automatically? Yes, we use Metricool for cross-posting. Buffer and Later also work. Some roofers paste directly into each platform to add native tags. Both are fine.
What if the drone footage is bad? Bad footage produces bad posts. Reshoot or use still photos. The prompt works with three good stills alone if the video is unusable.
Is AI-generated social content flagged by the platforms? Not as of writing. Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn do not currently penalize AI-assisted captions. What they penalize is engagement bait and reused content across accounts. Original video, original context, your voice-check – no issue.
